Pretty ugly, or ugly pretty?

Taking the mean, weighty forms of brutalist architecture and forcing them to play together.

I wanted to create as much of a back-and-forth of harmony and tension between these shapes as possible –

– using broad, space-greedy, but carefully and subtly made shapes that intersect and converse with each other through smaller points of detail, narrow spaces between edges, and repetition.

The symmetry of the compositions and the way they feel too big for the canvas adds to their weight, giving them a more imposing force, while the vibrant, sometimes clashing colors force you to see them as more complex characters.
